5 Steps To Build A Website For Online Teachers

So, you have decided you need to go online with your Online teaching business? Good for you!. Now that you’ve made the decision to take your business online, it’s time to take one of the first steps: Making A Website.

This is the part where most online teachers get scared, as they think they need to know a lot about programming or pay huge amounts of money to get a professional website for their online teaching business.

This is not true.

Nowadays, it is possible to get a website that looks professional by investing little (if any) money and learning a few basic tools.

In this article, I will show you the simple steps you need to follow to make a website for your business.

How To Build A Website In 5 Steps For Online Teachers

1. Choose a Domain Name

The very first decision you need to make is to choose the domain name of your website.

Ideally, your website should have the same name as your online teaching business. However, the internet is a huge market, and many times you will find that the name you want has already been taken.

If you want to know if the domain name you want is available, you can use a domain name checker like name.com or GoDaddy Name Search to find out.

If you find the domain you want for your business is not available, you can get creative and try different variations until you find one you can use.

For example, if your business name is englishwithjohn.com, you can try using variations like johnenglishteacher.com, learnenglishwithjohn.com, and so forth.

Also, you can change the .com section to another such as .school, .co, or add your country code to make it unique.

After you choose the domain name your online business will have, we recommend you don’t buy it right away. It’s better if you buy the domain directly from the hosting service you will use.

That way, you won’t have to go through the hassle of connecting your domain with the hosting you choose (Trust me on this one).

2. Get a Web Hosting Service and Register Your Domain

Besides your domain name, you will also need website hosting service.

Web hosting is a service that will store all the data from your website. Without a hosting service, other people won’t be able to access your website from their browsers.

The hosting service I recommend personally is SiteGround. This is the hosting service I personally use and has worked great for me and my business.

If you choose SiteGround, when you’re buying your hosting, they will also give you an option to purchase the domain you chose in the last step. They will also take care of connecting the domain to your new site.

Due to the situation with the COVID-19, they launched a special offer to help people take their business online.

They will give you three months of their top-of-the-line hosting service for less than 1 USD!

You can access the offer by clicking here:

3. Install WordPress

After you have your domain name and hosting set up, the next step is to choose and install a website building platform (also called CMS).

The one I recommend is WordPress. It’s free, and you can choose between thousands of templates and designs to make your website look professional and beautiful.

On top of that, SiteGround and many hosting platforms come with a 1-click option to install WordPress, so the only thing you will have to do is click on a button, and the Hosting service will take care of setting up WordPress for you.

4. Choose a Theme

A theme is basically a template of a website that has already been built.

The good news is that WordPress comes with a wide selection of free themes you can use.

Just go through the list of themes available inside the WordPress marketplace and choose the one you like the most.

I personally recommend the Astra theme. It’s free and it already has several free templates you can use to build your website fast.

5. Customize Your Website The Way You Like

So, you have come this far. Congratulations!

Now it’s time to make your website look exactly the way you want it. The good news is that, if you implemented the steps above the right way, this should be pretty easy.

Just enter into your WordPress account and get a little bit familiar with the options your theme gives you and start adding your content.

If you chose the Astra theme, it will be as simple as creating a presentation on PowerPoint.

Just double click on the section you would like to change and add your own images, text, and the buttons you would like your website to have.

So, there you have it! Those are the steps you need to follow to build a website for your online teaching business. I know it can seem impossible at first, but don’t worry. Once you start, you’ll find it’s not hard at all.
